As communities across North Carolina prepare to commemorate America's 250th anniversary in 2026, the Person County Tourism Development Authority (PCTDA) is helping bring the celebration to life locally with the installation of America 250 banners throughout our community.

The colorful banners serve as more than decorative streetscape enhancements—they are a visible reminder that Roxboro and Person County are joining communities across the nation in recognizing the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. America 250 is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reflect on our nation's history, celebrate the people and places that define our communities, and inspire future generations.

"The banners are designed to create excitement, foster community pride, and let both residents and visitors know that something special is happening in our community," said Julie Maybee, Executive Director of the Person County Tourism Development Authority. "As people travel through our community, we want them to feel welcome, inspired, and encouraged to participate in the many events and activities taking place throughout the America 250 celebration."

The banner initiative is one component of Person County's broader America 250 effort, which includes community events, educational programming, historical recognition, family activities, and partnerships with local organizations. Throughout 2026, residents and visitors will have opportunities to experience festivals, patriotic celebrations, exhibits, live music, history programs, and other events that highlight both America's story and Roxboro and Person County's unique heritage.

Beyond celebrating history, the banners also support tourism and economic development by creating an attractive and welcoming atmosphere throughout the community. Attractive streetscapes encourage exploration, promote local businesses, and reinforce Person County as a destination for visitors traveling throughout North Carolina.

North Carolina's official America 250 initiative encourages every community to commemorate the state's role in the nation's founding while celebrating the people, places, and stories that continue to shape our future.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to watch for additional America 250 decorations, exhibits, programs, and special events throughout the coming year as Person County joins communities across North Carolina in commemorating our nation's 250th anniversary.
