Celebrating How “Ag Is All Around Us” in Person County
Each November, Person County comes together to celebrate one of the most important parts of our community — agriculture. This year’s Farm City Week, themed “Ag Is All Around Us,” will take place November 3–8, 2025, and everyone is invited to join in on the fun!
This annual celebration, hosted by N.C. Cooperative Extension – Person County Center, highlights the deep connection between our farms, our people, and our local economy. From educational workshops to creative events and delicious gatherings, the week offers something for everyone — whether you’re a lifelong resident or a visitor exploring our vibrant community for the first time.
Monday, November 3 – County Commissioners Meeting
Kick off the week at the Person County Office Building (Room 215) at 6:00 p.m. as our elected officials officially proclaim Farm City Week. It’s a moment to recognize the many hands that make our county’s agricultural industry flourish.
Tuesday, November 4 – Mural Walk & Business After Hours
From 5:00–7:00 p.m., take a guided stroll through Uptown Roxboro and enjoy an evening of food, drinks, and art that celebrates Person County’s agricultural heritage. Hosted in partnership with The Butcher’s Daughter Market & Deli, Black Creek Brewery, and the Person County Arts Council, this event is the perfect blend of local flavor and community spirit.
Wednesday, November 5 – Horticulture How-To’s
Learn something new at the Person County Public Library during an afternoon workshop from 3:00–4:30 p.m. Join local expert Johnny Coley and the Extension Master Gardener Volunteers for a hands-on session on seed libraries and gardening basics.
Thursday, November 6 – Farm City Breakfast
A beloved local tradition! This private event connects community leaders and elected officials for a hearty breakfast and a tour of a working farm, emphasizing how agriculture continues to shape Person County’s economy and culture. This year it will be hosted at Thomas Family Farms in their main shop at 789 Johnnie Jones Rd., Timberlake, NC 27583. Friday, November 7 – School Garden & Greenhouse Tour
Students at South Elementary School will showcase their B-Fresh Garden Club projects beginning at 9:00 a.m.Attendees will get a firsthand look at what’s growing and how our youth are learning the importance of sustainability and local food systems.
Saturday, November 8 – Foraged Wreath-Making Workshop
End the week with a creative, hands-on experience at Hawkins Loop. From 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., walk the pastures and forest trails with Master Gardeners to gather natural materials and craft your own one-of-a-kind autumn wreath. The workshop costs $60, with proceeds supporting local school and community gardens. Register here.

Agriculture is more than just crops and livestock- it’s part of what makes Person County a must-visit destination. Our rolling farmland, family-owned markets, and community events invite visitors to experience rural North Carolina’s charm firsthand. From farm-to-table dining to scenic country drives, Farm City Week is a reminder that our local farms play a big role in what makes Person County so special for residents and travelers alike.
